Postdoctoral Studies in Developmental Stress and Resilience Research
Jacob Center for Productive Youth Development, University of Zurich Switzerland
My name is David Bürgin I am young enthusiastic and passioned empirical researcher and health psychologist.
In the last years, I have worked in various capacities in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatric Research at the University Psychiatric Clinics Basel, Switzerland and in Ulm, Germany. I also worked in as a lecturer at the University of Basel and have gained some international research experience as a visiting graduate student at UCSF San Francisco at the THRIVE Lab. Recently, I moved my research home to the Jacob Center for Productive Youth Development to pursue postdoctoral studies in developmental psychopathology at the research group “Risk and Resilience”.
Coming from my academic background, I am a psychologist (MSc) with a major in Clinical Psychology and Neuroscience. I received my doctorate in clinical research at the Medical Faculty of the University of Basel. My research overall focusses on the bio-psycho-socio-ecological consequences of childhood adversities and stressors, with the overall hope that a deeper understanding of these consequences transfers to increased and improved care efforts.
In my research, I seek to integrate findings from population-based samples and from research in at-risk populations. At the margins of our societies, and so of any large-scale population-based study, are sub-populations with specific risk profiles and resulting support needs; these must be identified and addressed. As such I hope that my research helps to inform and target care efforts and public health measures towards helping stressed and burdened young people to thrive despite adversity.
Outside of work I very much enjoy being outdoors in all their forms, be it growing vegetables and getting my hands and clothes dirty in my little garden, mountain biking the nearby Black Forest, or hiking and skiing the Swiss Alps. I dearly appreciate sharing community of dear friends, eating delicious foods, and drinking a glass of good wine and beer every now and then. I am glad you showed by. Please feel free to reach on for any exchange or requests.
Best regards,
David Bürgin
